"summary_nl": "Quantum chemical calculations of the electronic structure of molecules and molecular complexes are used to determine heats of formation, geometries, potential energy surfaces and various molecular properties. We explore new methods and extend our computer-codes for this purpose. The results from the calculations are used tot explain and complement experimental observations, to identify experimentally observed reaction products and to clarify reaction mechanisms. Collaboration with experimental chemistry groups (Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Organic Chemistry, Synthetic Organic Chemistry (Metal-Mediated synthesis), Mass Spectrometry, Structural Chemistry, Solid State Chemistry) is customary and is being intensified. These project is divided in the following subprojects:\n\nProject A) Unconventional cations in the Gasphase. This project covers isomerisation and dissociation reactions of (radical) cations in the gasphase, using state of the art ab initio calculations. \n\nProject B) Ab Initio Organic Chemistry. Studies are on-going on the optical properties of large organic molecules. Two classes of compounds are now the subject of study, viz. the functionalised oligo (cyclohexylidenes) and the cyclopentafused pyrene derivatives.\n\nProject C) Explicitly correlated wave functions. The long-term aim of this subproject is the efficient, accurate and local treatment of dynamical (or short-range) electron-correlation effects in atoms and molecules by means of explicitly correlated wave functions.\n\nProject D) Valence Bond Theory. In collaboration with Inorganic Chemistry in Nijmegen we try to apply tha Valence Bond method to the area, where it is always assumed to be most useful, the elucidation of chemical bonding.\n\nProject E) Ab Initio Inorganic Chemistry. The long-term aim of the research project is to develop theoretical models that can be used to study the catalytic reactions that take place in the laboratory.\n\nProject F) Service/Collaboration and Quantumchemical Program-system. The emphasis here is on the very accurate calculation of energies and properties, more specifically using explicitly correlated wave functions.",
