"summary_en": "After the first impressive steps towards the construction of a national quantum network, many challenges lay ahead. This project tries to tackle some of these challenges. It will explore the use of quantum emitters in 2D van der Waals materials like hexagonal boron nitride (hBN), as alternative to the NV-centers in diamond that are currently used. And it will study and optimize the use of optical cavities to boost the performance of these emitters. The project is curiosity driven but could result in better components for the quantum internet, with prospects to increase the communication rates by orders of magnitude.",

"update_en": "New mirrors and improvemens in the technical/mechanical design offer better control over the optical radiation trapped in our micro-cavities. Experiments with microwave radiation now also address the spins of our quantum emitters, currently still NV centres in diamond but soon also spins of quantum emitters in 2D van-der-Waals materials. The importance of 2D materials has recently been subscribed with a large grant for a national collaboration project SAP-NL (= National Scalable Atomic Processing Line), in which we also participate and from which we hope to profit.",
