"summary_nl": "Understanding and controlling the relationship between function, underlying structure and dynamics of functional materials is essential in improving their properties. Optical spectroscopy refers to a broadly applicable group of methods that exploit the interaction between light and matter to infer material properties. Improving the spatial and temporal resolution of spectroscopic techniques down to the smallest (nanometer) length and fastest (femtosecond) time scales in order to resolve processes occurring on these scales is an ongoing challenge.\nThe goal of the proposed research is to combine femtosecond spectroscopy with nanoscale microscopy. To this end, an ultrafast laser source will be intergrated into a near-field microscope that is based on an AFM. Novel technical approaches such as adiabatic nano-focussing, pulse shaping and tip-laser frequency synchronization will be implemented, which will eventually allow to investigate and manipulate fundamental femtosecond opto-electronic properties of individual nano-objects (molecules, quantum dots) in an inhomogeneous environment.\n",
