"summary_en": "This project aims to design a quantum processor architecture where qubits can be scaled and operated using simple digital control signals. Semiconductor spin qubits are a promising platform to realize a practical quantum computer due to their potential for mass-production using semiconductor technology. However, the construction of a quantum computer is extremely challenging as millions of interacting qubits need to be precisely controlled. To overcome this challenge, we use novel qubits in germanium that can be operated with digital signals at ultra-fast clock speeds. Our innovative approach provides a blueprint for the next-generation quantum processor hardware.",

"summary_nl": "The project 'optimization of BAND' involves the optimization of the I/O library of the computer program BAND. This program serves as a research tool for the study of bulk crystals, polymers, as well as surfaces: systems with periodicity in 1, 2 or 3 dimensions. The performance of BAND is not satisfactorily when run on large parallel supercomputers because of the large amounts of I/O involved in the calculations. The aim of the project is ro remove the I/O bottle neck of BAND by keeping everything in memory. This is possible because the modern parallel supercomputers are in general equiped with large amounts of memory, typically 1 Gbyte per processor or more. More specifically, the I/O statements of the I/O library of BAND will be replaced by memory-to-memory operations. Futhermore, a caching technique will be implemented to use a mix of memory and disk access, thus ensuring that BAND will be able to run on machines equipped with less memory.",
